About NCEP

Our story, our mission, and our unwavering commitment to educational psychology in Nigeria — from a single meeting in Nsukka in 2003 to a nationwide professional community.

——— OUR STORY

How It All Began

The story of the Neo Cycle Educational Psychologists Association begins at one of Nigeria's most storied institutions of learning — the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In 2003, the esteemed Prof. Elizabeth Eke (FNAE, FNCEP), a distinguished scholar and passionate advocate for educational psychology in Nigeria, brought together a group of like-minded professionals who believed that the discipline deserved its own organized, purposeful, and impactful professional association.

The association was originally known as the Nigeria Council of Educational Psychologists before adopting its current identity as the Neo Cycle Educational Psychologists Association — a name that reflects renewal, progress, and the ever-evolving nature of the discipline it champions.

Today, NCEP stands as a testament to what a small group of committed professionals can build when driven by shared purpose and professional passion.

——— THE DISCIPLINE

What is Educational Psychology?

Educational psychology is the scientific study of how people learn — and how best to teach them. It is a discipline that sits at the intersection of psychology and education, drawing on research in human development, cognition, motivation, and behaviour.

In Nigeria, where educational challenges are as complex as they are urgent, the work of educational psychologists has never been more important.

"Educational psychology transforms classrooms not through guesswork, but through the rigorous application of scientific understanding to human learning and development."
